How to set Region/Locale on V8 systems

RSS

Region and Locale are very important to configure correctly when systems have to interact. If you follow the installation manuals for operating systems

V8 Installation Documents

then there will be no problem. But if someone installs Windows with wrong locale settings then you can experience problems.

Example that will not work:

QCXv7 system is configured for English (United Kingdom) and exports an XML file.

QCXv8 system is configured for English (United States) and imports XML file from V7.

Date formats are in one system DD/MM/YYYY and the other system MM/DD/YYYY.

How to change Locale:

V7 Systems:

Log into FlsaServer account and configure settings according to our standard. Reboot after changes.

V8 Systems:

Services are running under a system account hence you cannot just login to a user and change like on V7. Instead do the following:

1. Log in as FlsAdmin in Windows.

2. Configure the regional settings according to standard in Control Panel->Region and Apply.

3. On the Administrative tab choose "Copy settings..." select both "Welcome screen and system accounts" and "New user accounts".

4. Also change "Change system locale..." to use the standard.

5. Reboot.

Which OS to change and what language?

The regional settings need to be the same on all PCs on the network. Various FLS servers and clients, XRF/XRD/PSZ computers. Results from XRF, XRD and PSZ could be transferred wrong if we have different comma separators.

Language is in principle not important it just has to be the same everywhere. In Copenhagen we have decided to use English (United Kingdom). Windows display language can still be in another language but the regional settings should not be changed.
