Looking into older documents the description 'Sampling point' might appear, so how does it relate to 'Sample point'?

There is no difference - both terms have been used interchangeably in the past.

We have, with the introduction of QCX Lab Automation V8, decided to settle for 'Sample point', for which reason 'Sample point' in the future will be seen throughout software UI's, proposal texts etc.
